The Standard Bank Corporate Centurion Challenge is a 24-hour endurance walk (not run).

The walkathon starts at 9am on Saturday 5 October, and will see the walkers/ hopefuls, walking around a flat, 5km course for up to 24-hours, as they earn a place in the elite club of Corporate Centurions.

Participants have the option between the 100km or 160km race. You have the choice to walk solo or create a team of either 2, 3 or 4 members to share the load, ensuring there’s something for everyone, regardless of fitness level.

This isn’t just a walk – it’s an experience! Along the way, walkers will enjoy music, water stations, and thrilling giveaways, all designed to elevate the walking experience and keep spirits high. All proceeds will go to supporting CHOC and the many children impacted by cancer.

How to enter

Rule to Note

It is a walk, so you must walk! (Rule 230 Definition of Race Walking: Race walking is a progression of steps so taken that the walker makes contact with the ground so that no visible (to the human eye) loss of contact occurs. The advancing leg shall be straightened (i.e. not bent at the knee) from the moment of first contact with the ground until the vertical upright position.
Jogging and/or running will result in the participant being disqualified.

ABOUT

The Corporate Centurion Challenge is a 24-hour endurance walk (not run), with an option to choose either a 100km or 160km distance/route, where you have choice to walk solo, or create a team of either 2, 3 or 4 members to share the load in a relay format.

The walk starts at 9am on Saturday 5 October and ends at 9am on Sunday 6 October, followed by a prize-giving and brunch.

The Corporate Centurion Challenge endurance walk has two distance categories:

  • Soloists and 160km teams in 24 hours
  • 100km teams in 20 hours

This can be achieved by walking solo or in a team

  • Solo (one walker)
  • Duo (two walkers)
  • Trio (three walkers)
  • Quad (four walkers)

The 100km and 160km walkers will be circulating around a flat, 5km course.

  • 100km solo & 160km solo walkers, as well as the 160km teams of 2, 3 or 4 have 24 hours to complete the race (starting at 9am, 5 October)
  • 100km teams of 2, 3 or 4 have 20-hours to complete the race: (starting at 1pm, 5 October)

The walk is open to all Standard Bank and Old Mutual employees.

Yes, teams of 2, 3 or 4 may only have one team member walking at a time. You can walk in an any order, and one team member may walk more laps than the others.

All participants need to be 18 and over.

Always check with your doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen to make sure you are medically able to participate. Only your doctor can determine how much exercise is safe for you. Starting an exercise programme that is more strenuous than you are ready for can result in injury and serious medical problems.

Important to note:

This is an endurance walk, you should embark on a suitable training regime well in advance. Refer to the Information Guide under Training & Nutrition for tips on how to prepare before the race.

Every cent raised goes to charity and will be matched by the bank. Your participation big or small is welcomed.

ENTRY FEES AND CHARITY INITIATIVE

The entry fee is R350 per person and payment will be requested upon registration. The fee includes access to participate at the walk as well as all amenities provided, and a kit bag that will include a T-shirt, cap and Race bibs.

Note: The fee does not include food and beverages, however there will be vendors on site.

Payments will be accepted by Credit Card, Debit Card or instant EFT.

On race day, it will be cashless event, and we request that you please bring a debit/credit card.

The donations will be managed via the For Good platform. Click here to donate or support your participating walker.

All proceeds will go to supporting CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation and the many children impacted by cancer. All Donations raised will be matched by CSI, resulting in double the impact.

The ‘Corporate Centurions’ Race4Charity is an exciting new initiative that offers walkers and teams an opportunity to turn their walking efforts into something even greater for charity.

The campaign is intended to foster wider support from you or your team’s family and friends! Teams that opt-in will receive a unique link to share with their network to widen their impact. Every cent you raise counts and adds to the cause.

KIT COLLECTION POINTS

All registered Standard Bank walkers will receive a kit, consisting of a t-shirt, cap, race bibs and will be available for collection closer to the race date, at the Kit collection points. Please ensure when registering that you select the correct size, as t-shirts are ordered according to registrations, and exchanges won’t be able to be made on the day.

RULES

The Competitive Time Walk is a long-distance footrace in which the participants must walk and shall not run. Form and technique of walking are very important in this category. Competitive walking isn’t just slow running. It is a progression of steps taken in such a way that the walker makes contact with the ground at all times and no visible loss of contact occurs during this course.

This is an endurance walk (not run). Should a participant be found jogging or running, they will be disqualified.

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

It is recommended for those requiring flights and transfers to arrange it timeously via the Club Travel portal https://nexct.co/corporateInterface/index.do or email them on standardbanksupport@clubtravel.co.za.

Note: Travel expenses to be arranged via your respective cost centre, at the discretion of your line manager. Refer to the Information Guide for more information. 

For accommodation, we recommend Protea Hotel Techno Park Stellenbosch. 5.9km (11-minute drive) from the Stadium | Check-in: 14:00 | Check-out: 11:00. Limited rooms available.

We have arranged a discounted rate with Club Travel. Use CCC2024 as a reference when booking via Club Travel.

HOW TO ENTER

Registrations for the walk can be done through the race online site https://www.easyreg.co.za/users/sign_in
Team Captain will be responsible for registering the team.

The last day to register is Friday 6 September 2024. No offline registrations will be accepted

Not without formal registration. A registration is non-transferable, and participants are responsible for adhering to disclaimers upon registration.

Yes, it is recommended that the Team Captain registers on behalf of their team. Credentials submitted at the time of registration, should be of the person being registered only.

A registration would be rejected or declared invalid if:

(a)  The details submitted by the candidate(s) are false/fake

(b)  Incomplete registrations

(c)  Payment of participation fees is unsuccessful

Refresh your page and start your registration again.

Payment will only be processed after filling the mandatory fields for registration. Once the payment has been made a confirmation email and SMS will be sent to the phone number as provided by the participant. Interested candidates are required to meet all registering conditions with correct information and carefully follow steps while registering for the event. Providing false information may lead to cancellation of registration and no refund of participation fees will be provided for the same.

Cut-off for changes will be Monday 23 September 2024

An email confirmation will be sent to the registered participants once registration has been completed.

You can cancel the registration. Regretfully as it is a Charity fundraiser, all funds collected and raised are given to charity, and where a staff member has donated it, it is matched Rand for Rand by Standard Bank CSI.

FOOD & DRINK

No food or drinks are allowed to be brought into the venue. Food and beverages will be sold for the full duration at the Food Zone area at the stadium. The vendors will be fully Halaal and will offer various vegan and vegetarian options.
Note: It will be cashless event, and we request that you please bring a debit/credit card.

We have procured a liquor license. Beer, wine and ciders will be sold at the Food Zone area at the stadium.

Yes, there will be a water station at the Start/Finish point, and possibly at the 2.5km mark.

Yes, there will be marshals along the route, at key turns and sections will be fenced off.

Yes, we have appointed Finish Time, who will be recording the lap times and overall race times using a chip system. There will be a screen at the finish line that will have live stats, advising you of distance covered at the end of each lap.

We will be providing tents with limited number of chairs. Please bring a camping chair with you if you can.

Yes, there are showers and ablution facilities in the stadium. Please bring a towel and toiletries if you want to shower.
